The Wrens’ Chapel

The exhibition The Wrens’ Chapel evolved out of research carried out into the history of the College chapel. The chapel was the first architectural commission completed by Sir Christopher Wren, and was paid for by his uncle, Matthew Wren, a Fellow of the College, in celebration of his release from the Tower of London in 1659.  The exhibition was designed and produced by MJDA to highlight the historical context within which Matthew Wren made his gift, the sources and precedents for Christopher’s design, and the personalities and processes involved in its construction.

“...one of my fellow Heads of House said to me that it was stunning and reminded him what a matter of pride it was to be Master of a Cambridge College.” Sir Roger Tomkys, Master of Pembroke
